Three Resolutions for the New Year

I am about to do a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? - Isaiah 43:19

Well it is that time of year when people use the change of the calendar to make resolutions for the new year. There is something about a fresh year that inspires us to try something different to break out of a rut or to start something new.

As I look forward to 2017 as a church, I would like to suggest three resolutions for each one of us in our congregation.

First, I encourage each of us to Invite Someone to a Church Activity.
We have a warm and remarkable church family, and we are called to share this gift with others. You could invite a friend to worship with you at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m; or you could invite a neighbor to join you at the Presbyterian Table; or you could invite a co-worker to one of our community focused events. We have a story to tell; so let’s tell it!

Secondly, I encourage each of us to do one new thing to Grow In Our Faith.
If you are not a Sunday School attender, perhaps you could commit to coming to Sunday School for the Spring. Perhaps you could join or start a small group study. (We hope to expand our small group offerings by at least one this year.) You could decide to pick one video study on Right Now Media and go through it at home. (If you need to know how to access this extensive video Bible study resource, please call the church office.) There is always room for growth; so let’s grow!

Finally, I encourage each of us to do one new thing to Serve Someone in the Name of Jesus.
If you have never prepared the meal for the homeless shelter or stayed the night as host, you could try it! You could help with a project on Touching Davidson County With Love Day in April. You could do a random act of kindness for someone, and then give them one of our “Random Act of Kindness” cards to let them know you did it in the name of Jesus. There will always be someone who needs help, so let’s help!

These three simple tasks can make a big difference in our life together as a church.
I am so looking forward to 2017. I believe God has great things in store for us!

Your friend and pastor,
Pastor Lee
