Lay Pastoral Ministry Update

One year ago, we began our Lay Pastoral Ministry with the commissioning of six lay pastors. Since then, our lay pastors have been ministering to a number of homebound and chronically ill members of our church. The purpose of Lay Pastoral Ministry is to reach out to members and families of the congregation and to offer friendship, caring, prayer and spiritual comfort.

As we seek to expand our lay ministry and serve more people, we are looking for those in our congregation who may have gifts for caring ministry who would like to use those gifts to glorify God and edify the church.

• Has God given you a heart for caring for other people?
• Would you like to have your caring skills acknowledged and strengthened?
• Do you prayer regularly for people who are struggling with illness or other concerns?
If any of these describe you, you may be interested in our Lay Pastoral Ministry.

So what do Lay Pastors do? Each Lay Pastor is assigned 4-5 flock families, and he or she commits to four actions: First, the Lay Pastor Prays regularly for his or her families; secondly, the Lay Pastor makes himself or herself reasonably Available to the families; thirdly, the Lay Pastor Contacts each family on a monthly basis; and finally the Lay Pastor strives to be an Example to the families. The work can be remembered with the acrostic: P.A.C.E.

We would like to invite you to a short informational gathering following worship on Sunday, September 18th in the fellowship hall to learn more about Lay Pastoral Ministry. This informational session will begin at 12:15 and will last no longer than 30 minutes. At this meeting, you will be introduced to the concepts of Lay Pastoral Ministry to see if you might like to pursue our equipping seminar to be held at a later date. No commitment will be asked of you at this short gathering; we just want you to discover what Lay Pastoral Caring Ministry is all about and see if it is something God wants you to do. If you have any questions, please give me a call.

May the Lord bless each of you as we seek to share the caring love of Jesus with all.
Your friend and pastor,

Pastor Lee
