William and Mary Women's Chorus in Concert at FPC

On March 28 at 7:00 pm, we will host the William & Mary Women's Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Jamie Bartlett, in concert in our sanctuary. This female ensemble is comprised of 45-60 undergraduates from all different backgrounds, concentrations, and interests. Formed in 1923, this audition-only group goes on a Spring Tour every year, traveling to nearby states and sharing their talents with diverse audiences. In the Williamsburg community, the music of the Women's Chorus is well known and enjoyed by students, staff, faculty, local residents, and tourists alike. Most recently, the Women's Chorus had the privilege of performing for his holiness the Dalai Lama when he came to speak at the College in October 2012.

We need families to act as hosts for this wonderful group. Each host should be willing to accommodate 2, 4, or 6 ladies in their home for one night. The singers will enjoy a light meal at the church prior to their performance. Host families will take the singers home after the concert, provide a comfortable bed or sleeping area (couch, sleeping bag, etc.), breakfast, and then return the singers to the church Saturday morning. If you would like to volunteer to be a host family, a sign up sheet is available in the church lobby or narthex.

Admission to the concert is free, and the concert is open to the community.

Collections for TDCWL 2014

Our church will be doing two individual collection projects. These collection projects will start immediately and end on April 12.

We are collecting children's diapers of all sizes, infant through toddler, for the Department of Social Services. A collection box is in the lobby.

We are also collecting non-perishable food items for Pastor's Pantry. That collection box is already in the lobby. Also, let us continue to bring in plastic grocery bags for the Pantry.

Thank you for helping others in need.

2014 Touching Davidson County with Love

Saturday, April 12 is Touching Davidson County with Love, an annual event where several churches join together to help others and show God's love with skin on it. There are 4 types of projects: residential (homes owned by the people we will be helping), agency projects (American Children's Home, Crisis Ministry, and Kiwanis Camp), large group projects (nursing home visits, sewing, and cooking), and collecting for agency needs. To date we have about 30 projects in which most of them are residential needs.

Everyone has gifts to help out that day from youths to seniors; there is something each one of us could do that day. It can be from visiting nursing homes to helping with collections and home repairs. The project forms are posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Fellowship Hall. Please take the time to review these sheets and sign up for a project. Some of the projects listed are generic by skill (i.e. painting or house cleaning) because it involves several homes. If you want to work together with a specific person, please make a note on the sheet, and the project leaders will try to accommodate you. The deadline for signing up is March 30, so the leaders will have time to assign everyone to the projects and be able to communicate the details back to participants.

It's time for our Fall Chicken Pie Sale to raise extra funds that can go directly and immediately to the local helping agencies we support. It is our hope for this sale to go beyond the membership of the church, so we encourage everyone to invite their neighbors, friends and coworkers to order pies.

Large pies (which can serve 6-8) are $12; orders of 3 or more are $11 each. Small pies (which can serve 1-2) are $16 for a box of four pies (must be sold as whole boxes). The pies are "Moravian-style" (meat only, no veggies). Order forms are available at the church or may be downloaded and printed here, and all orders must be in by October 27.

Payment is due at the time orders are placed. Checks should be made payable to First Presbyterian Church. Pies may be picked up Saturday, November 2, 9:00 am-12:00 pm and Sunday, November 3, 12:00-1:00 pm. in the church fellowship hall.

The Presbyterian Table

Changes are afoot for the Wednesday Night Supper Club. They are moving their dinners to a new night (in hopes it will allow choir, handbell, and Men’s Bible Study members to participate and to allow us to visit a wider variety of restaurants), and they are taking a new name! They will reserve a table at a different restaurant each week, and anyone who wants to eat out is invited to come sit at "the Presbyterian table."

The Presbyterian Table will join up for dinner on Thursday nights. What doesn’t change is the time (still 6:00 PM), the premise (an informal group open to all with each person being responsible for his or her own expense), and the fun! We invite you to join us any week for good food, fellowship, and lots of laughter.
