Acts Alive Collecting Canned Goods

On the evening of Sunday, October 24, Acts Alive will be visiting homes of FPC members to collect canned food donations for Pastor’s Pantry, a food pantry that serves senior adults in need in our community. In 2008, Acts Alive collected over 450 cans of food, and in 2009, they collected 304 cans. They have only a 40-minute time allotment to get to as many homes as possible, so if you have been visited before or live fairly close to the church, your doorbell may ring.

Pennies From Heaven Campaign

The face of the homeless is changing. No longer is it just the unemployed man, homeless vets, or single mothers. The average homeless people in America today are children.

Increasingly, the Crisis Ministry is providing: shelter for homeless veterans discharged from Veterans’ Hospital in Salisbury, shelter for homeless discharged patients from mental hospitals, elderly men and women, the physically handicapped in wheelchairs or walkers, and those with serious illnesses. The Family Shelter provides for the needs of families with children.

Your spare change can change lives! Through December 5, you have the opportunity help the Crisis Ministry assist those in need by donating your spare change to Pennies from Heaven. Collection containers for your donations are located in the lobby and the Narthex. Please give so that those in need may be blessed by your generosity.

Chicken Pie Sale to Benefit Missions

We are holding a “Chicken Pie Sale” to raise some extra funds that can go directly and immediately to the local helping agencies we support. It is our hope for this sale to go beyond the membership of the church, so we are encouraging everyone to invite their neighbors, friends and coworkers to order pies.

Large pies (which can serve 6-8) are $12; orders of 3 or more are $11 each. Small pies (which can serve 1-2) are $16 for a box of four pies (must be sold as whole boxes). Order forms are available at the church or may be downloaded and printed here, and all orders must be in by October 9. Payment is due at the time orders are placed. Checks should be made payable to First Presbyterian Church. Pies may be picked up October 15 from 9:00 am-12:00 pm, or October 16 from 12:00-1:00 pm in the church fellowship hall.

We look forward to seeing everyone in worship at 11:00 am on August 1 to hear from Acts Alive about their mission trip experience. Don't miss it!
